IntenSati Shapes Your Mind and Body

I first discovered Patricia Moreno when she lead Nike’s warrior workout video. Ms. Moreno’s workouts energized me by combining spoken affirmations with heart-pumping cardio & strength training moves set to bass-thumping beats. This winning fusion will also help you “harness the power of the mind to achieve the potential of the body,” says the Gaiam DVD instructor.

Be sure to attend an IntenSati group exercise class at Equinox’s Greenwich location in New York City. Or read her new book, The IntenSati Method: 7 Secret Principles to Thinner Peace. Although the title is trite, Ms. Moreno’s message is sincere and powerful enough to shape your mind and body. Watch Patricia Moreno’s IntenSati class, and then subscribe to her motivational blog or read The IntenSati Method: 7 Secret Principles to Thinner Peace and stock your fitness library with her DVDs.

Boot camp: Allison Daisley

Booty Camp Fitness. Top photo by Kevin Van PaassenAllison Daisley, 31, is naturally drawn to outdoor workouts having grown up in Owen Sound, Ont., a small city on the shore of bucolic Georgian Bay. To take advantage of fall-weather workouts, the marketing manager at Cake Beauty is getting fit with friends through Booty Camp Fitness, a military-style boot camp program — rain or shine. She’s pushing herself and targeting her problem areas, but a reliance on take-out meals is assaulting her efforts.

For actor James McGowan, 49, being in good physical form is necessary to convincingly play an elite security agent on CBC-TV’s The Border.

But earlier this year he realized his curl and crunch regime was overworked and his metabolism was shot. Inspired by the actors’ workout for the action movie 300, he rewrote the script on his four-year-old routine and took up CrossFit.

Interview With Running Room Owner John Stanton

Q&A Interview with Running Room Owner John StantonRunning Room owner John Stanton has inspired millions of Canadians to improve their health and social life by joining his run clubs where instructors use his 10:1 training concept. Mr. Stanton, who is the author of four books and completed more than 60 marathons, spoke to me about training for his first 10K and offers advice for new runners.

Q. What can someone planning to jog or run their first 10K learn from an experienced runner like you?

“Listen to your body. Every coach will tell you that, but an athlete must listen. Ask yourself, ‘Is that residual soreness from the training affect? Or is the pulling or sharp pain something else?’ Rest is part of good training, too, so swim, ride, walk on other days for extra recovery.”
